After spending most of her career as the saucy Samantha in Sex and the City, Kim Cattrall is set to raise some eyebrows again in her latest movie role playing the ageing porn star Monica Velour - a part which includes a pole dance scene.
Not that Kim Cattrall appearing in a risqué scene is particulary news worthy, of course, but it does breakaway from her famous stint as SATC's Samantha. And The Daily Express also reliably inform us that the film's director, Keith Beardem, asked Cattrall to put on weight and lose some of her trademark glamour for the role.
"(I told her) 'You need to gain weight, and the goal is to blow people's image of you into tiny little pieces'," said Bearden. "'I'm going to make you look bad at every turn.'"
So although playing a character that has lots of sex won't be much of a departure for the actress, it seems that she is taking a bold step away from the glitz and glamour of New York's best known party girl and opting for something a bit grittier.
The film is about a chap called Tobe (Dustin Ingram) who goes on a quest to meet his favourite porn star, Monica Velour, and is already being hailed as a return to the Weird Science school of 80s comedies. The film was first shown at the Tribeca Film Festival last April and is set to be released in the US in a couple of months (no confirmed UK release date as yet).

The two most misused words in the entire English vocabulary are love and friendship. A true friend would die for you, so when you start trying to count them on one hand, you don't need any fingers.”
